Montcalm Royal London House has joined Marriott International’s Autograph Collection Hotels following a refurbishment of the Finsbury Square property.

The 253-room hotel occupies the former headquarters of Royal Mail and has introduced a series of new interiors and guest experiences inspired by the building’s history as a centre of communication.
Joining Autograph Collection will allow the hotel to retain its individual identity while connecting with Marriott Bonvoy members and Marriott International’s wider global distribution network.
All 253 guestrooms and suites have been refurbished, combining neutral tones with richer accents across furnishings, artwork and feature walls.
New Terrace Suites have also been introduced on the top floor, providing private terraces, outdoor lounge areas and views across the London skyline.
Guestrooms feature books exploring postal history and the culture of letter writing alongside poetry collections ranging from established British writers to contemporary voices.
References to handwriting, correspondence and the building’s postal heritage continue throughout the reception, lobby and public areas.
The hotel has developed its new identity around the concept of the ‘Art of Expression’, with creative studio Culture A overseeing styling and the curation of more than 900 artworks by 30 artists.
The collection includes prints, paintings and collages influenced by correspondence, handwriting and the shapes and colours associated with traditional British post boxes.
A rotating gallery programme will also operate in partnership with Rise Art, showcasing established and emerging artists through seasonal exhibitions beginning on 1 October.
Two post boxes form part of the guest experience.
A replica green Royal Mail post box is on loan from The Postal Museum, while a traditional red post box allows guests to send bespoke, hand-drawn postcards during their stay, with the hotel concierge arranging delivery.
Montcalm Royal London House is also working with London Writers’ Salon on a programme of calligraphy workshops, writing salons and other literary events from October.
A partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London has created a collection of illustrated sleep poems for guestrooms.
Jonathan Mills, Head of Hotels at Montcalm Collection, said: “For generations, words, stories and personal messages passed through this building.
“As Montcalm Royal London House enters its next chapter, we wanted to honour that legacy in a way that feels relevant, creative and deeply human.
“The Art of Expression invites guests to become part of the story, from sending a handwritten postcard to discovering contemporary art and poetry throughout the hotel.
“Joining Autograph Collection Hotels allows us to share this original London experience with Marriott Bonvoy members and travellers worldwide, while retaining the independence, character and sense of place that make the hotel distinctive.”
Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium, Select and Midscale Brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Marriott International, said: “Autograph Collection Hotels was created for properties with a real story to tell, and Montcalm Royal London House’s history as the former Royal Mail headquarters gives it exactly that kind of character.
“It’s the sort of heritage that can’t be manufactured, and it’s what makes the hotel such a natural fit for the collection.”
Existing facilities at the property include YĀTRĀ Signature Spa, which features a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
Aviary Rooftop Restaurant & Bar serves seasonal British dishes and cocktails with views across London.
The hotel also provides a range of meetings and events spaces capable of hosting functions for up to 240 guests.
Montcalm Royal London House has held Green Key certification since February 2024 and is working towards EarthCheck certification as part of Montcalm Collection’s wider sustainability programme.
