Shepshed Community Pub Reopens Following £230,000 Refurbishment

August 31, 2026

The Top Railway in Shepshed has reopened following a £230,000 refurbishment funded by licensee Joe Finnigan and Admiral Taverns.

The investment has transformed the Charnwood Road community pub while retaining original features including its traditional wooden flooring.

Inside, the refurbishment has introduced new fixtures, fittings, furniture and décor throughout the venue.

A new games area has also been created featuring a pool table, dartboards and flatscreen televisions.

Externally, the pub has received new signage and decoration, while its beer garden has been upgraded with a new decking area, lighting, benches and umbrellas.

Licensee Joe Finnigan and his team bring experience from a range of hospitality roles to the venue. Finnigan grew up locally and plans to develop the Top Railway as a family-friendly community pub.

Finnigan said: “It has been absolutely fantastic to see this refurbishment come to life and to welcome customers back through the doors.

“The Top Railway is a proper community pub and has a long history in Shepshed, which we hope to continue for many years to come.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped make this transformation a success, particularly the team at the pub led by our manager Alex. I’d also like to thank the entire team at Admiral Taverns for all their support along the way.”

The pub will host a regular programme of entertainment including pool and darts leagues, live music, quiz nights and bingo.

Finnigan and his team also plan to organise fundraising events and community initiatives supporting local causes.

Following the refurbishment, the drinks offer includes a selection of cask ales, draught lagers, ciders and stout.

Robert Stubbing, Business Development Manager at Admiral Taverns, said: “I’m delighted to see the Top Railway refurbishment completed. Joe and the entire team have worked extremely hard to make sure every detail is perfect.

“The response since reopening from the community has been incredibly positive and I have no doubt that this will continue to be the case going into the future.

“On behalf of everyone at Admiral Taverns, I’d like to wish the whole team every success for the future.”

Admiral Taverns operates approximately 1,350 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.
