Bootle Community Pub Reopens Following Transformational Makeover

August 3, 2026

The Albion in Bootle has officially reopened following a transformational investment of more than £389,911.

The Albion in Bootle

The pub reopened on Friday 24 July after a major refurbishment.

The Albion is part of Proper Pubs, the award-winning community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns, which operates more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales.

Inside, the pub has been completely transformed with new flooring, fixtures and fittings throughout.

The refurbished venue also includes a new dartboard and two pool tables in the games area for customers to enjoy.

The bar, games and snug areas have also been updated.

Outside, The Albion has been fitted with new festoon lighting and signage.

An extended drinking area has also been created, offering both open and covered seating.

The refurbished beer garden can now seat around 50 people.

The pub will offer a range of drinks promotions, including Wine Wednesday, where customers can receive £2 off a bottle, and Fizz Friday, with bottles of fizz available for £10.

Cocktail, bottle and shot deals will also be available throughout the week.

Philip Maher, Operator of The Albion, said: “I loved seeing this incredible transformation come to life.

“Admiral’s expertise was incredibly helpful throughout the process, and they truly understood what this pub needed to provide for the community.

“From the outset, the aim was to create a welcoming, comfortable space where locals and visitors can come together.

“It was great to see people coming in to experience the finished pub for the first time.

“The transformation has given The Albion a fresh new look while retaining the character that makes it such an important part of the community.”

Alongside its drinks selection, The Albion will host a busy schedule of entertainment.

This will include monthly karaoke on the last Friday of every month from 8.30pm, a weekly quiz on Thursday evenings from 8pm and live music every Saturday evening from 9pm.

Maher is also hoping to support all aspects of community life by collecting food to donate to the local foodbank.

Looking ahead, he also hopes to support Claire House Children’s Hospice by organising charity events and raising money towards a defibrillator.

Nikki Greenhalgh, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “It is a real pleasure to have Philip at The Albion.

“It was great to see how well the refurbishment came together in the end and the positive response from customers following the reopening has been great so far.

“Bringing people together and creating vibrant community hubs is at the heart of what we do, and we are so glad to see another successful community pub opening.”

Proper Pubs continues to support communities through an annual schedule of events and fundraising initiatives.

This year, over Easter, it collected 21,619 Easter eggs to donate to local charities.

In 2025, operators collected 20,500 selection boxes to donate to local charities and communities in need at Christmas.

They also raised £80,255 for Admiral Taverns’ charity partner, Claire House Hospice.

Last year, Proper Pubs donated enough food to local foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week.

The operator has also been recognised in the UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign, which has already saved 11 lives.

In 2026, Proper Pubs was listed as a finalist in the Best Community Pub category at the Great British Publican Awards.

It was previously crowned Community Pub Operator at the Publican Awards in 2024.
