The Tame & Anker in Tamworth has reopened following a £350,000 investment by Proper Pubs, the community wet-led operator division of Admiral Taverns.

Located on Ellerbeck, the pub officially reopened on 9 October following a refurbishment of its interior and exterior.
New operators Carly and Pedro Costa have taken over the pub. Both live locally and are entering the pub industry for the first time.
Inside, The Tame & Anker has been refurbished with new fixtures and fittings alongside an updated bar area.
The outdoor space has also been redeveloped, with a new pergola, seating, signage and lighting introduced as part of the investment.
The pub offers a range of drinks alongside a programme of entertainment including quiz nights, darts and pool teams and book clubs.
Carly Costa, Operator of The Tame & Anker, said: “It was great to see people visit and experience the finished pub for the first time. The refurbishment has given the Tame and Anker a fresh new look while retaining the character that makes it an important part of the community.
“Admiral’s expertise was very valuable throughout the process, and the team understood what the pub needed to offer the community. From the outset, the aim was to create a comfortable, welcoming space for locals and visitors to enjoy.”
The operators also plan to introduce get-together mornings for older members of the community and collect food for donation to a local foodbank.
Further fundraising activity is planned in support of The Heart of Tamworth and Simon’s Heroes, alongside efforts to raise funds for a defibrillator.
Matt Gurney, Operations Director for Proper Pubs, said: “It has been a real pleasure to welcome Carly and Pedro to the Tame and Anker. It was fantastic to see the refurbishment come together so well in the end, and the opening night was a great success.
“Bringing people together and creating vibrant community hubs is at the heart of what we do, and we are so glad to see another successful community pub opening.”
Proper Pubs operates more than 200 pubs across England, Scotland and Wales and runs an annual programme of community events and fundraising initiatives.
During Easter 2026, the business collected 21,619 Easter eggs for donation to local charities. In 2025, its operators collected 20,500 selection boxes for local charities and communities at Christmas and raised £80,255 for Admiral Taverns’ charity partner, Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Proper Pubs also donated enough food to foodbanks across the UK to feed 1,300 people for a week last year, while its involvement in a UK-wide defibrillator installation campaign has seen equipment installed across its communities.
