The Hoptician in Dursley has been crowned CAMRA’s Cider and Perry Pub of the Year 2026.

The micropub, which opened in 2024, secured the national title after progressing through CAMRA’s regional judging and competing against cider and perry pubs from across the UK.
Run by Kirsty and Kevin Farmer, The Hoptician occupies a former optician’s shop and has developed a drinks offer that can include as many as 20 different ciders.
The couple decided to open their own venue after visiting micropubs around the UK, choosing the Dursley site despite having no previous connection to the town.
Alongside its cider range, The Hoptician serves five cask beers and has developed a regular programme of community events.
These include live music, DJ and open mic nights, weekly charity quizzes and organised golf outings, with an outdoor pub garden also operating during the summer.
The interior incorporates beer and cider pump clips, cinema seating, a vintage record player and an old games machine.
Kirsty Farmer, Licensee of The Hoptician, said: “We are immensely grateful and honoured to have received such a high accolade after just two and a half years. It really is down to the amazing community in Dursley for all their continued support.
“We think it’s a privilege to be part of a positive story in the hospitality industry at this time when pubs are closing and struggling.”
Sarah Newson, National Cider and Perry Pub of the Year Co-ordinator, said: “The four finalists this year were of a very high standard, so it was particularly impressive for the Hoptician to be overall winner for 2026 as it only opened in 2024.
“It provides a showcase for quality real cider and perry, with local producers at the forefront. All wrapped up in a lovely quirky style, it’s very friendly to all, and it is a real asset to the local community, where it is much appreciated and very popular.”
CAMRA’s Cider and Perry Pub of the Year competition recognises pubs and clubs across the UK for their promotion and sale of real cider and perry.
The Hoptician had previously been named CAMRA’s West Central Region Cider Pub of the Year for 2026.
