Star Pubs has completed a series of senior management changes following Mick Howard’s move to become On-Trade Sales Director at HEINEKEN UK earlier this year.

The changes include the promotion of Matt Dyson to Operations Director North, alongside expanded responsibilities for Caren Geering and a new regional leadership role for Cathy Olver.
Dyson joins the Star Pubs Leadership Team, bringing extensive operational experience gained through several senior positions within the business.
His previous roles include Regional Operations Director for Scotland and the South West, as well as Head of Business Support, providing him with experience across different areas of the company’s pub operations.
Caren Geering has taken on additional responsibility for Star Pubs’ Just Add Talent managed operator estate alongside her existing position as Central Operations Director.
Her current responsibilities include overseeing operational support functions such as customer care, supplier management, recruitment, training and back-of-house pub support teams.
The expanded role will bring the Just Add Talent estate under Geering’s leadership, supporting the sharing of operational practices and initiatives between managed operator pubs and the wider Star Pubs estate.
Meanwhile, Cathy Olver, previously Head of Retail, has been appointed Regional Operations Director for Scotland, with responsibility for 256 pubs across Scotland and Cumbria.

Olver has previously overseen the company’s marketing and digital functions, alongside its food and drink operations, and has also served as one of Star Pubs’ diversity, equity and inclusion leads.
Her appointment brings a combination of retail, digital and operational experience to the regional leadership role.
Lawson Mountstevens, Managing Director of Star Pubs, said: “We have a wealth of senior management experience in the business that we’re able to draw on to deliver our strategic long-term plan. Matt’s regional operations background and breadth of knowledge across the business will be invaluable in his new role.
“Bringing JAT under Caren’s remit makes absolute sense as learnings and support trialled in our managed operator pubs are shared with the wider estate. And as a Scottish resident of over 15 years, Cathy understands the unique character of the Scottish pub market. Her combined retail and digital experience will be a real asset to the region.”
The management changes strengthen Star Pubs’ operational leadership structure as the business continues to develop its pub estate and support operators across its managed, leased and tenanted businesses.
