North London pub operator Enda Murray has taken on his first Star Pubs lease at The Ship on Tottenham High Road.
The deal takes Murray’s estate to three pubs and will be accompanied by a joint £550,000 investment with Star Pubs.
The Ship, located within walking distance of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is expected to reopen in early November following an eight-week refurbishment beginning this month.
The pub has been closed for three-and-a-half years and will reopen as an event-focused, family-friendly local.
Its proximity to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will form an important part of the business, with the venue expected to attract customers around football matches and other sporting and cultural events held at the stadium.
Live entertainment will feature on match days, while the wider programme will include regular live music, a pub quiz and live sport shown on Sky and TNT Sports.
Four new high-definition televisions will be installed on the ground floor to provide views of live sport throughout the pub.
The refurbishment will retain the property’s late Victorian character while introducing a new ground-floor bar and first-floor function room.
The downstairs space will include a central bar counter and seating for 48 guests.
A dedicated sports area will feature a pool table with an electronic payment system alongside a darts zone with halo lighting and an electronic scorer.
Externally, the pub’s green wall tiles will be restored, with new etched glass windows, signage and gold lanterns also introduced.
The rear garden, which accommodates up to 80 guests, will also be refurbished.
Its covered area and railway arches will be renovated, with two outdoor televisions, new planting and festoon lighting forming part of the redesign.
Murray currently operates Madden’s Bar in East Finchley and The Dog & Duck in Winchmore Hill and plans to expand his North London estate further in the coming years.

“Pubs have to work really hard to look after customers and become true local hubs.
“Our pubs have managed to prosper by embedding themselves in their communities and supporting them whenever they can. We’ll do the same at The Ship.
“It has the added benefit of being close to the stadium, and so can profit from all the events held there.”
