Last week, The CRUMBS Project brought trainees, staff, and corporate partners together at this year’s Dorset Plane Pull, raising funds and awareness for its specialist hospitality training provision in Dorset.
Each year, at Bournemouth Airport, teams of 20 race to pull a 35,000 kg Boeing 737 for their chosen charities, an epic challenge of teamwork and strength.
This year, five CRUMBS trainees and supporters took on the Dorset Plane Pull alongside representatives from Brown & Brown, Jet2, and Umbrella Training. Fellow participants and event attendees also supported CRUMBS at its charity stand, where their Human Fruit Machine raised further donations and welcomed conversations surrounding the charity’s training opportunities for adults with disabilities.
Millie Capon, Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships Coordinator at The CRUMBS Project, said: “The Dorset Plane Pull was a fantastic opportunity to unite trainees, supporters, and corporate partners. We are incredibly proud of our five trainees; they represented CRUMBS brilliantly while dissolving the barriers often placed in front of those navigating disabilities, neurodivergence, or mental health conditions.”
The CRUMBS Project has supported adults across Dorset for almost 30 years. It’s practical food preparation and service training helps trainees gain qualifications, confidence and skills for greater independence and employment.
With 90% of trainees moving into employment outcomes following the average two-year traineeship at CRUMBS, the charity hopes to continue front line delivery of quality training to those most in need of the specialist provision. As The CRUMBS Project prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2027, further fundraising activities and celebrations are planned throughout the year. The charity extends a warm welcome to support and partnerships from those working across the sector.

The support of volunteers, corporate partners, and donors continues to help create opportunities for adults with disabilities, ensuring more people can access the training, confidence, and pathways to employment that change lives.”

Hospitality and catering operators can explore emerging technology at Robot Week in London, with dedicated sessions on 9 and 10 September demonstrating robotics across food and drink service, coffee, cooking, cleaning and back-of-house operations.
