Bamboo Mat to Open Second London Restaurant at Canary Wharf

September 9, 2026

Japanese-Peruvian restaurant Bamboo Mat is set to open its second London site at Canary Wharf’s Wood Wharf this September.

The new restaurant will build on Bamboo Mat’s existing Stratford location with a larger 364 sq metre site accommodating 82 covers across two floors.

The ground floor will feature a raw bar and cocktail bar, while the first floor will house the restaurant’s robata, sushi and hot kitchen operations.

Gynda Gourmet Hospitality Management Group has overseen the design of the restaurant, working alongside Pic Construction Group on the build.

The interiors have been developed around the combination of Japanese and Peruvian influences that underpin Bamboo Mat’s Nikkei food offer.

Natural wood, cement, warm lighting and muted materials will feature throughout the restaurant, with the design intended to reflect both Japanese precision and Peruvian influences.

Bamboo Mat first opened in Stratford in 2022 and has built its menu around a combination of Japanese techniques and Peruvian flavours.

The Canary Wharf restaurant will serve sushi alongside dishes drawing on Japanese classics including teriyaki, ceviche and tiradito.

The food offer will be accompanied by a cocktail list influenced by Asian and Peruvian ingredients.

Owner Denis Gobjila said: “Bamboo Mat Canary Wharf has been a long time in the making and we’re excited to unveil a completely unique design and larger site for our celebrated Nikkei offering.

“We’ve been watching Canary Wharf turn into a real foodie destination over the last few years, and we can’t wait to bring a new dimension to its increasingly diverse restaurant scene.”

The opening will expand Bamboo Mat to two London restaurants and introduce the concept to the growing hospitality offer at Wood Wharf.
