The Cumberland in Marble Arch has announced two senior culinary appointments across the hotel and Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen.

Matthew Hurry has joined as Head Chef of The Cumberland, while Stefano Tortelli has been appointed Head Chef of Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen.
The appointments strengthen the hotel’s food and beverage leadership as it develops its restaurant, bar, events and dining operations.
Hurry brings more than 15 years’ experience across luxury hotels and restaurants, with a background spanning fine dining, large-scale hotel operations and kitchen leadership.
Most recently, he was Head Chef at The Angel Inn, a two AA Rosette restaurant with rooms.
Before that, Hurry spent more than three years leading the kitchen at The Stables at The Grove Hotel & Spa, overseeing a large brigade and food and beverage operations within the five-star resort.
His earlier career includes positions at Hotel Café Royal, Sea Containers London, Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square and InterContinental London Park Lane.
In 2019, Hurry won the M Young Chef of the Year competition while working at Hotel Café Royal.
As Head Chef of The Cumberland, he will oversee the hotel’s wider culinary operation, including Lírica, its Spanish tapas restaurant.
The Cumberland also operates 17 meeting and event spaces, including Arena, its largest venue, which can accommodate up to 400 guests.
Tortelli joins Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen with experience across a number of London restaurant groups as well as international projects.
His career includes senior positions at Margot, Enoteca Turi, Bocconcino and Gordon Ramsay Restaurants.

He has also worked internationally as a consultant on the launch of Adare Restaurant in New York and as a private chef for the Getty family.
Most recently, Tortelli was Brand Executive Head Chef for Bulldozer Group, where he led the culinary direction of the company’s Italian restaurant portfolio.
During his time with the group, he oversaw the openings of ALBA in Knightsbridge and La Baia in Paris.
His experience also covers restaurant concept development, kitchen design, menu development, operations and the training and development of culinary teams.
Tortelli will now lead the kitchen at Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen at The Cumberland.
The restaurant marks the UK arrival of the Hell’s Kitchen concept and is currently operating seven days a week at the Marble Arch hotel.
Its menu includes dishes associated with the international Hell’s Kitchen restaurants, including Beef Wellington, lobster risotto and pan-seared scallops.
Pedro Da Silva, General Manager at The Cumberland, said: “We are delighted to welcome Matthew and Stefano to The Cumberland at such an exciting time for the hotel. Both bring exceptional talent and creativity, with a wealth of experience across some of the industry’s most respected hotels and restaurants. Their appointments reflect our continued investment in delivering outstanding dining experiences, and we’re excited to see them shape the future of dining at The Cumberland.”
The appointments follow a wider programme of investment in leadership across The Cumberland’s hospitality operation as the hotel develops its food, drink and guest experience offer.
