Turley has secured listed building consent and planning permission for a new luxury townhouse hotel in Manchester City Centre, enabling Eclectic Hotels to create an exciting 40-bedroom luxury townhouse hotel in Booth Street, in Manchester’s Upper King Street Conservation Area. It will be Eclectic Hotels’ fourth hotel in the city.
The new hotel – to be called King Street Townhouse® – will also offer a restaurant and bar, function room and events space, and a new rooftop extension with infinity spa pool and terrace.
Turley provided specialist heritage advice in relation to the conversion of the Grade II listed building, and work on the new King Street Townhouse is expected to begin within the next few months and be completed by early 2015.
Eamonn O’Loughlin, owner of Eclectic Hotels said: “We have worked closely with Manchester City Council and our design team to create a luxury townhouse hotel within the King Street conservation area. We are very grateful to the city’s planning department for their support and guidance. I remain heavily involved in the project on a daily basis to ensure the concept we have devised is made a reality and hopefully welcomed by the public.”
Katy Lightbody, Associate Director, Turley Heritage said: “This is an impressive Italian Renaissance former bank and the scheme successfully reconciles the sensitivities of the listed building with the need for new contemporary accommodation. We look forward to seeing work commence on site.”
Originally built in 1874 for the Manchester Salford Trustees Bank, the building was designed by local architect Edward Salomons and has been used until recently as offices. Salomons also designed the nearby Manchester Reform Club on King Street.
