A return to strong levels of commercial demand fuelled a 19% year-on-year increase in profitability at London hotels in September, according to the latest
The increase in Gross Operating Profit per Available Room (GOPPAR) was primarily driven by a 13.6% increase in Total Revenue per Available Room (TrevPAR), which grew to £155.71 from £137.01 during the same period last year.
Once again, the margin of profitability growth was positively influenced by the ability of London hoteliers to effectively manage costs, exemplified by a 1.4 percentage point decrease in the ratio of payroll to total revenue, to 22.4%.
The achieved TrevPAR in September was also more than £40 above the levels achieved in August, at £115.41, illustrating the impact of corporate and conference demand on ancillary spend as well as rooms revenue.
