Boris Johnson during yesterday’s Downing Street press conference said that Health Secretary Matt Hancock would today make an announcement on plans for hotels playing a role in quarantining international passenger arrivals at UK travel hubs, as well as a timetable.
Then later yesterday evening the No 10 Press Office issued a statement saying that said the Prime Minister had been “misinformed”.
This morning on BBC Breakfast, Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi told viewers that an “operational plan” for hotel quarantine would be announced in “the coming days” by the Health Secretary.
All of this followed Home Secretary Priti Patel telling the Commons more details of the planned collaboration with hotels in providing quarantine safeguards would be provided to MPs this week.
We have corresponded with many hotel groups today, and all say that no contact or details have been made or provided.
It also seems it is not only hoteliers left in the dark, as the Immigration Services Union that represents people working with the UK Border Force stated that “nothing has been communicated” to them or their members.
The Prime Minister speaking of border controls said that the UK already has “one of the toughest regimes in the world” in place. We await hearing details of such measures, as seemingly do the people expected to implement them.
Looking forward to The Clink Charity Golf Day 2021 at The Belfry
