The petition to Government to appoint a Minister for Hospitality is seeing support from across the hospitality industry drive signatures towards its target of 100,000 with increasing speed.
The petition created 9 October by Claire Bosi, Editor, Chef & Restaurant Magazine has gathered huge additional momentum following the creation and launch of #SEATATTHETABLE.
Brenda Collin- SVP Europe Preferred Hotels & Resorts#SEATATTHETABLE was created by a group of ‘young’ hospitality professionals to drive support for the petition, and is spearheading a social media campaign to drive petition signatures.
Industry names have lined up to back the petition with enthusiasm and passion. Earlier today we spoke with some of them who explained their commitment to the cause.
Brenda Collin- SVP Europe Preferred Hotels & Resorts clarified her thoughts by saying: “I’m delighted to share that all of our 22 Preferred Hotels & Resorts members across the UK and our employees are backing the petition to campaign for a Minister of Hospitality within the UK parliament.
“Our industry has supported each other tremendously throughout 2020 and we now need to ensure that we demonstrate how united we are, by pulling together to get this petition over 100,000 signatures.
“We urge everyone to sign today and help achieve this target. Our future depends on it.”
Stuart Procter, Chief Operating Officer, Stafford CollectionStuart Procter, Chief Operating Officer, Stafford Collection summarised his support by telling us: “I fully endorse and have signed the ongoing petition for a Minister of Hospitality position to be created within the Cabinet.
“The hospitality industry is in the top five employers in the UK and 2020 has made it quite clear that we are underrepresented and underappreciated by the Government and we urgently need a designated spokesperson to speak up for us all.
“For anyone who currently works in hospitality, has friends or family members who do so or even just enjoy the incredible bars, restaurants, cafes and hotels in the UK, I urge you to sign the petition as soon as possible. We need help sooner rather than later and this is the best way of facilitating that.”
Sally Beck MI FIH, General Manager, Royal Lancaster LondonSally Beck MI FIH, General Manager, Royal Lancaster London emphasised her focus in saying: “A Minister of Hospitality is vital.
“Hospitality has a broad and deep impact across the whole of the country, from small villages to major cities. Hospitality is intrinsically linked with the positive mental health of the country as a whole.
“For the Government to understand our diverse industry, that is the third largest employer, this position is essential.”
Adrian Ellis, GM, The LowryChair of the Manchester Hotel Association, Adrian Ellis, and GM at The Lowry said: “I am pleased as General Manager of The Lowry Hotel and Chair of the Manchester Hotel Association to support the need for a Minister of Hospitality.
“With our industry significantly impacted in 2020, it has highlighted the need for hospitality to be given the priority and focus it richly deserves. As one of the biggest industries in the UK and a major employer for people up and down the country, there is a real need to address the image, concerns and opportunities that this industry represents.
“We are all fully behind the petition to support a Minister of Hospitality to represent our industry at the very highest levels.”
