The world’s largest water mosaic as confirmed by Guinness World Records was recently created at the annual conference of Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division at the O2 Arena in London. Over 300 employees and suppliers worked together, taking three hours to fill 81,000 white plastic cups with 17,000 litres of different coloured water.
The theme of the 2012 conference introduced by Matt Johnson, Managing Director, Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division was Citius – Altius – Fortius (Faster – Higher – Stronger), an Olympic motto first used in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.
He comments: “The O2 Arena was a fitting venue for the 2012 conference, which will play host to the gymnastics and basketball finals at the Olympic Games this July. Our theme for the conference was based on Olympic disciplines and setting the bar high to achieve your goals, whilst looking beyond what you think you’re capable of achieving.
“It was therefore with great excitement that we brought together over 300 employees and suppliers to the world-class venue that is the O2 Arena, to achieve our goal of securing a Guinness World Record. The Guinness team set the bar very high. All 81,000 cups had to be filled with 200ml of different coloured water to replicate the Bunzl mosaic and every cup had to be touching – all carefully monitored throughout by three adjudicators. I am very proud of everyone who took part, we were committed to achieving our goal and whilst doing so had huge fun. “
John Young, Sales & Marketing Director, Huhtamaki Ltd comments: “As a major sponsor of the Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division annual conference, we were delighted to take part in such a momentous challenge. We worked hand-in-hand with the Design Team at Bunzl, taking the dimensions of the cup to create the base for a colour-coded circular template. Supplying, monitoring and working with 81,000 cups to strict guidelines is no easy feat, but as Matt commented above – huge fun.”
