As uncertainty drifts around us, and choppy waters approach for the hospitality industry, a push towards education and development provides a unique opportunity to battle through the storms ahead. 2019 ushers in the next generation of hospitality leaders with an invitation to apply for the Master Innholders Aspiring Leaders Diploma (MIALD), open to all junior-level managers across the hotel industry.
Quality assured by a prestigious Princess Royal Training Award and endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality, the MIALD offers those junior management professionals striving to climb the hospitality ladder a valuable professional and personal development experience of a lifetime. A strong network, essential knowledge, behind the scenes hotel visits and educational theory will help them develop and progress to enable them to more confidently lead and support their teams. It also serves to retain them as they deepen their awareness to the wealth of experience the industry has at its core.
A 12-month commitment beginning in April 2019, this in-depth experience combines mixed teaching in the form of group workshops, back-to-work activities, private study, project work, best practice visits and carefully chosen guest speakers, resulting in an internationally and industry recognised Level 3 Award from the Institute of Leadership & Management.
Budgets may be squeezed, but investment in training and development of future talent through inspiration, expert advice, and opportunities, is one of the only ways to find a way out of the steady decline that is being witnessed around the country. Designed to develop management skills, leadership talent and build career prospects, the MIALD covers eight key business areas: Professional Development, Business Management, Service Operations Management, Marketing and Sales, Financial Management, People Management, Team Management, and Leadership.
Programme developer and course leader, Dr Hilary Cooke, commented; “This will be our 8th year of the MIALD programme and our Alumni is growing steadily. I look forward to meeting this year’s cohort and seeing how much they develop and grow during their time with us.”
A series of eight, two-day residential workshops form the basis of the study sessions where delegates will develop their skills and career potential in pursuit of their award-winning diploma. Learning deeply about themselves, their business, and the wider hospitality industry, past diploma graduates have benefitted by developing their careers and achieving senior roles in some of the country’s leading hotels.
For those then looking to continue their enrichment and join the exclusive network, diploma holders are then qualified to be awarded Associate membership of the Institute of Hospitality, becoming part of an esteemed network of professionals spanning the length and breadth of the country.
The programme venues for 2019/20 will be provided by a variety of outstanding properties including Grosvenor House London, Macdonald Aviemore Resort, The Lowry Hotel Manchester, Novotel London West, and the Victory Services Club.
Applicants must be nominated by their General Manager and submit a CV and application form by 22 February 2019. Generous financial support is provided by the Master Innholders Charitable Trust, with the employer of each successful applicant required to contribute £1,500 towards the overall cost of the programme.
