Ahead of schools breaking up for the summer and students hunting for their first job, Costa, the nation’s favourite coffee shop, has revealed a new Costa Careers YouTube series, starring Jason Cotta, recently appointed Managing Director of Costa UK and Ireland.
The ‘Boss vs Barista’ film, which is one of four films in the YouTube series, sees Jason Cotta take time out of his busy schedule, to go into store to see what skills and personality traits are needed to be a Costa Barista, proving exactly what it takes to succeed in the hospitality sector.
We see Jason compete in challenges against Barista Maestro Nicoly Serreira, demonstrating the transferrable skills that baristas learn in-store and that Jason still uses in his role today.
The YouTube short film series has been created to encourage young people to understand how their first job is a vital start to their career; providing lifelong skills and work experience.
The video series launches as Costa released new research* which show that over a third of people (34%) said that their first job prepared them for a future career and the top skills that employees look for in future employees are communication (49%), teamwork (38%) and people skills (33%).
Jason Cotta, Managing Director at Costa UK&I commented: “Going back to work in-store for the Costa Career series reminded me just how talented our staff are. I’m always so impressed by our baristas who put so much passion and personality into every drink they make. Nicoly was a great competitor and I’m proud that she is one of our baristas.”
“With over half of our employee base consisting of under 25s, we are extremely proud of the fact that every week we give 110 young people the opportunity to start their career. I hope through the new series young people will see the long term career opportunities available at Costa and will be encouraged to pursue a career within the business.”
