Urban Pubs & Bars has raised more than £32,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity after employees and suppliers took part in a challenge covering all 67 of the group’s London venues.

A total of 80 participants joined the first Urban Pubs & Bars Marathon on 15 September, completing different sections of a route stretching 110km across the capital.
The challenge was divided into six regional legs, with participants able to join individual sections while a smaller group attempted the entire route.
Four people completed the full challenge, beginning at the George and Dragon in Wanstead at 6.30am and reaching The Whippet in Kensal Rise at 11.30pm.
The route took approximately 16 hours and included more than 51km on foot alongside journeys by Tube, train and bus.
Individual fundraising and supplier sponsorship, including support from Lucky Saint and Franklin’s, generated more than £32,000, more than double the challenge’s initial fundraising target.
The money forms part of Urban Pubs & Bars’ £250,000 commitment to Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
Combined with wider fundraising activity across the business, the group has now raised more than £200,000 towards that pledge.
September initiatives have also included a ‘pound on the bill’ campaign across Urban Pubs & Bars venues during Children’s Cancer Month.
Funds are supporting GOSH Charity’s Build it. Beat it appeal, which is helping finance a new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Urban Pubs & Bars’ £250,000 commitment is intended to help fund a private bedroom within the new centre, providing space for children receiving cancer treatment and their families.
Plans for the Children’s Cancer Centre include private accessible bathrooms, facilities allowing families to remain together and digital connectivity within patient rooms.
Chris Hill, Managing Director of Urban Pubs & Bars, said: “The first ever Urban Pubs and Bars Marathon was a very special, if gruelling day. Safe to say we underestimated just how hard it would be to travel so far across London to visit all of our wonderful London pubs.
“The team of colleagues and suppliers remained so positive all day, and it was amazing to receive such warm welcomes at each pub. I am delighted we have raised over £30k for GOSH, doubling our initial target, meaning that we have now raised over £200k of our £250k pledge to support the building a new private bedroom at the hospital.
“I want to thank all partners on the day, especially Lucky Saint and Franklin’s who supported with sponsorship and provisions along the way.”
Urban Pubs & Bars will continue fundraising across its venues, teams and communities as it works towards completing its £250,000 commitment to GOSH Charity.
