The hotel was opened by The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sardul Singh Marwa MBE JP.

Councillor Marwa said: “I am delighted to welcome AC Hotel by Marriott Birmingham NEC and Airport to Solihull.

“The hotel will provide high-quality accommodation and create valuable employment opportunities all at a time when Birmingham Airport is gearing up for its busiest summer ever.

“I wish the team every success as they begin this exciting new chapter.”

The former ibis Styles hotel joined Starboard Hotels in 2018.

Following a £4m investment, the property has been renovated and rebranded as AC Hotel by Marriott Birmingham NEC and Airport.

It is the first Marriott hotel in Starboard Hotels’ portfolio.

Frazer Callingham, Managing Director of Starboard Hotels, said: “Years of planning, design and investment have led to this point, and we’re thrilled to bring the AC Hotels brand to the thriving Birmingham Airport market.

“We chose the AC Hotel brand as we believe it is exactly what travellers are seeking – a premium, design-led hotel experience, delivered by a passionate team and backed by the wealth of experience, dependability, and innovation that Marriott bring.”

He added: “This is the first of what we hope will be many exciting milestones in our new relationship with Marriott, and showcases Starboard’s intent to continue to invest in our hotels, local communities, and teams.”

AC Hotel by Marriott Birmingham NEC and Airport features five stained-glass windows designed and constructed by Jackie Callingham, wife of Paul Callingham.

The windows reflect the history of nearby Birmingham Airport and are displayed behind reception, beside the lift and in the hotel’s lounge.

The renovation has introduced a sleek, modern and design-led aesthetic throughout the property.

The refreshed lobby and AC Lounge have been tailored for business and leisure travellers, creating a space for working, relaxing or enjoying signature AC cocktails and light bites.

The hotel also features five flexible meeting rooms, providing space for conferences, smaller gatherings and events.

Guests can also use the AC Fitness room, a modern and well-equipped gym.

The redesigned guestrooms feature contemporary furnishings and upgraded amenities.

Three additional bedrooms have also been added, bringing the hotel’s room count to 169.

In keeping with Starboard Hotels’ commitment to improving environmental performance, AC Hotel by Marriott Birmingham NEC and Airport has been fitted with an energy-saving system, Light Symphony.

The system automatically powers down a room’s lights, heating and air conditioning when guests are away, helping to reduce energy waste.
