New research from YouGov has found that alcohol consumption habits are changing across Britain, with one in three drinkers reporting that they are drinking less than they were 12 months ago.

According to the latest YouGov Profiles data, 33% of Britons who consume alcohol say they have reduced their intake compared with a year ago. The majority of respondents (58%) reported no change in their drinking habits, while only 8% said they are drinking more than they were previously. A further 1% stated that they have stopped drinking alcohol altogether.
The findings point to a continued shift in consumer attitudes towards alcohol, reflecting broader trends that have influenced hospitality, food and beverage operators in recent years.

Among those who have reduced their alcohol consumption, the most common reason cited was a reduced desire to drink. The findings suggest that changing lifestyle preferences are playing a significant role in the moderation trend.
Economic factors also remain influential. One-third of respondents who reported drinking less said affordability was a key reason, highlighting the continued impact of cost pressures on consumer spending habits.

Health concerns ranked as the third most common factor, with almost three in ten respondents identifying wellbeing considerations as a motivation for reducing alcohol intake.
Other influences were less significant. Around one in ten respondents said that changes in the drinking habits of friends or family had encouraged them to cut back, while a smaller proportion cited medication as a contributing factor.
The research reflects an ongoing evolution in consumer behaviour that continues to shape the hospitality sector, with operators increasingly expanding low and no-alcohol options, premium soft drinks and wellness-focused offerings to meet changing customer preferences.
