Sophie’s Legacy RieBears

June 4, 2026

The story of Sophie’s Legacy could not fail to touch the heart of anyone who hears it, and the more BGL Regional Sales Manager, Tim Howard, learned about the charity, the more he wanted to help in some way.

Sophie’s Legacy is a charity that supports families admitted to hospital with their children. They provide food, toiletries, transport, clothing and parent packs. The charity is also working with the Government and the NHS to drive national changes in memory of a wonderful 10-year-old girl who wrote a remarkable bucket list before she died, not for herself but for those that follow:

  • Play specialist 7 days a week in hospitals
  • Improvements to food for children in hospital
  • Parents to be fed when staying with their child
  • Health professionals to be trained in childhood cancer
  • Increase funding in childhood cancer research

Sophie wanted things to change so that others would not have to experience what she did.

Tim Howard said: “As part of my role at BGL Rieber, I spend a lot of time in hospitals, looking at how we can help with their catering needs, and I kept seeing the amazing work Sophie’s Legacy is doing. If companies like BGL can help charities like this, even in a small way, we can make a big difference to the people who need it most. This is something Sophie showed us all.
“So, I contacted the wonderful Phil Shelley, Senior Operational Manager and National Lead for Food and ambassador for Sophie’s Legacy, who agreed this was a job for RieBear.”

For some years, BGL Rieber has been supported by RieBear, a small bear who likes to help others, so it made perfect sense for RieBear to step in and provide comfort and hugs to children whenever needed – as well as to parents and the Sophie’s Legacy team.

Charlotte Fairall, Founder of Sophie’s Legacy, said: “It was so lovely to see you again, Tim. Thank you for coming along and taking the time to meet the team – it really does mean a lot.
“The bears are absolutely wonderful, and we’re so grateful for your support. They’ve already had such a positive reaction from the team, and I know they’ll bring real comfort to the families we support. Thank you for helping us make such a difference.”
