By Angela Green: Aldwark Manor sweep the board in January Kitchen Porter of the Month awards.
Following an incredible end to 2023 for the Kitchen Porters Club seeing record numbers of nominations for their Kitchen Porter of the Month awards, 2024 has begun on a similar vein.
Once again, nominations came from a diverse mix of industry sectors, with the winners all working within the Aldwark Manor Estate.
Aldwark Manor Estate is an independent, luxury hotel in North Yorkshire, set in 200 acres of idyllic countryside nearby to York and Harrogate.
The hotel enjoys 60 bedrooms including what guest reviews describe as “sumptuous suites”. There is a selection of restaurants and bars, each offering a distinct culinary experience, alongside an 18 hole golf course, a spa, and a swimming pool.
Nominations for three kitchen porters at Aldwark Manor Estate were received from Mike Sweeting, on behalf of kitchen porter colleagues Ivan Ferreira, Pedro Correia Madureira, and Cristobal Rodriguez.
Sweeting’s nomination read: “They all have passion and support the kitchen with prep as well. We have two kitchens and are opening a third in March. They live in our accommodation and live away from their partners, only seeing them at certain times in the year working hard to provide for them. They are always friendly, and Pedro won the team award for funniest person as nominated at our team awards recently.
“I work two jobs and one of them is as a KP and even when I worked as a GM of hotels, I always wanted to meet and make all the KPs happy as I know what an integral part they play in keeping it clean, tidy, and organised.
“It’s a hard job, so when you get gems, you look after them.”
The Kitchen Porters Club is run in partnership with Meiko UK, and Managing Director Paul Anderson is one of the competition judges. Anderson remarked on the start to 2024 telling us: “Since we launched the Kitchen Porter of the Month awards the response has been remarkable, it’s great to see so many kitchen porters being recognised by their colleagues.
“Every sector of our industry is now actively involved, and we are receiving nominations at every level too, from team supervisors to trainees. Meiko are delighted to be working with the Kitchen Porters Club to enable these awards and look forward to continuing to do so throughout 2024.”
