By Angela Green: Nobu Old Park Lane promote from within for GM appointment.
Japanese restaurant Nobu Old Park Lane has announced the promotion of Ales Potocnik to the role of General Manager.
Potocnik now leads on all operational aspects of business performance, development, training, reservations, and events, all while delivering the exceptional service that Nobu is renowned for worldwide.
Potocnik joined Nobu in 2007, after building a diverse career in hospitality in his home country of Slovenia, alongside time in the USA and running restaurants on board Royal Caribbean Cruises. Returning to Slovenia in 2004, he joined the team at Michelin Guide-recommended Sushimama in Ljubljana, where he first discovered a love for Japanese cuisine.
In 2007, he made the move to the UK and immediately joined the ranks at Nobu London. Starting as a Commis Waiter, he progressed quickly to a management position and, ultimately, his new role as General Manager. With over 15 years of experience serving Nobu London’s regular clientele, Ales is a familiar face to many, and well-placed to continue the restaurant’s legacy in the city.
Speaking about his appointment, Ales said: “I first heard about Nobu from a sushi chef in my home country of Slovenia – he described it to me as a magical place; somewhere that was breaking boundaries in the world of restaurants. So, when I arrived in London in 2008, I went straight to Nobu, interviewed for a job and I’ve never looked back since. 15 years on, I am honoured to be leading the team at Nobu Old Park Lane, and hope to maintain the magic for many years to come.”
