Exclusive Collection has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting local biodiversity and reducing its carbon footprint by launching its first community tree planting initiative.
Partnering with UK-based charity Protect Earth and climate action platform Ecologi, teams and volunteers came together recently at South Lodge in Horsham, West Sussex, planting 1,267 trees and 317 shrubs over a four-acre area to extend an area of ancient woodland, as part of the Million Tree Pledge.
Launching the partnership, Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP for Brighton, joined over one hundred local volunteers and members of the Exclusive Collection team to plant a diversity of trees including English Oak, Beech, Aspen, Wild Cherry and Goat Willow, and shrubs such as Hawthorn, Hazel, Blackthorn and Guelder Rose.
Working alongside Protect Earth and Ecologi, Exclusive Collection has also announced a partnership with online mapping platform The Land App to help understand the rich biodiversity and sequestration across its estates. The Land App will use authoritative data and GIS mapping to help improve the groups’ carbon capture, while supporting habitats and increasing biodiversity.
Danny Pecorelli, Managing Director, Exclusive Collection of the initiative: “Diverse and rich ecosystems are key components of a sustainable environment. This latest partnership and tree planting initiative highlights and demonstrates our commitment to ensure environmental wellbeing, biodiversity preservation, combatting climate change, and encourage others by setting an example of a sustainable business approach.”
In 2021 Exclusive Collection became the first hotel group in the UK to be B Corp certified, committing to equal importance in people, planet and profit across its business operations.
B Corp certification has a rigorous application process, covering five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Applicants must reach a benchmark of 80 or higher and provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, employee compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.
Exclusive Collection’s B Corp certification is a notable step and signals a shift towards greater accountability and transparency in the hospitality sector.
