By Angela Green, Content Executive, H&C News: Burger King make UK Youth official charity partner.
New research has revealed that 83% of young people say their mental wellbeing has been negatively impacted by the current economic climate. As a result of these findings, Burger King UK has partnered with UK Youth to make life-changing youth work more accessible to young people.
The research highlighted that two in three young people believe they don’t have a voice in wider society, feeling that they are often overlooked or not listened to.
In addition, more than six in ten young people are concerned about getting a job due to the current economic situation, with one in two saying there is not enough support available to help them into employment and 38% feeling concerned about their future.
Together Burger King UK and UK Youth, a leading charity that works to ensure all young people are equipped to reach their full potential and thrive at every stage of their lives, aim to support young people through these ongoing challenges. This partnership will provide essential funding over the next two years and support the charity’s work helping young lives by unlocking youth work as a catalyst for change.
From employability to social action to physical and mental health, youth work is a vital avenue of support to help with the unique challenges faced by the younger generation. Over half (51%) of teens and nearly three-quarters of young adults believe they would have benefitted or would benefit from speaking to a youth worker. A third of full-time students feel that access to a youth worker would be beneficial and 43% of young adults in full-time employment, look back and believe that they would have benefitted from a youth worker at a younger age.
Leo Visconti, Director of External Relations at UK Youth, said: “We are extremely grateful for Burger King’s support which comes at a critical time, with the youth sector being hit especially hard by the cost-of-living crisis in the UK. Quality youth work provisions can transform a young person’s life – as well as benefit the wider UK economy – so investment from businesses and funders into the youth sector is absolutely vital to our country’s future.”
Nicola Pierce, Director of Commercial Planning & ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) from Burger King commented: “UK Youth plays a crucial role in empowering young people to overcome obstacles and achieve their maximum potential. These ambitions resonate strongly with Burger King UK and we are proud to become official charity partners, supporting UK Youth to create meaningful positive change.”
