By Angela Green, Content Executive, H&C News: Nordic kitchen and dining room Eldr opening in SW1.
Eldr is the Nordic kitchen and dining room on the 2nd floor of the impressive Pantechnicon in Motcomb Street, SW1X. The 45-seat restaurant, private dining and event space will open on 29 April with a new head chef – Finnish-born Jenny Warner – and an ingredient-led seasonal menu.
Eldr, which means ‘fire’ in Old Norse, honours the guiding principles of Nordic style, both in its cooking and its interior design, with a timeless, minimalist Scandinavian décor incorporating natural materials.
The set five-course culinary experience (£55pp), which will evolve every three weeks, will showcase smoked, pickled, cured and raw food, along with seafood and seaweeds, and foraged and fermented botanicals. Cooking over fire translates into many dishes. A carefully matched optional drinks pairing (including non-alcoholic options) will be available at £45pp, in addition to the wine list which will feature a number of natural and bio-dynamic wines.
The new menu is as follows (with optional drinks pairing in italics):
- Rye bread, bone marrow, butter – (Sparkling Birch Sap Wine, Sav, Sweden 2018)
- Asparagus, morels and Västerbotten – (Mikkeller, Japanese Rice Lager)
- Mackerel, skyr, crispy seaweed – (G&T by the sea)
- Grilled lamb loin, wild garlic, oyster – (Cinsault, Old Vines, Bechtold Vineyard, Birichino, California, USA 2019)
- Goats cheese, flowers, smoked honey – (Riesling Spätlese, ‘Zeitlinger Sonnenuhr’, Selbach-Oster, Mosel, Germany 2007)
- Sea buckthorn tartlet, charred meringue – (Ice Cider, ‘Claim’, Brännland, Sweden 2018)
Eldr will be open for dinner from Thursday-Saturday. Details of the programme of guest chefs and speakers, curated by the Pantechnicon team, will be available on the website. Reservations can be made on 020 7034 5425, or via www.pantechnicon.com
