On March 23, 2020, Boris Johnson announced the UK’s first full national lockdown, a few days earlier he told cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to close. Now two years later we await the results of a police investigation into the extent he, members of his government, Conservative MPs, and civil servants at Number 10 partied throughout three lockdowns.
A total of 20 parties are currently being investigated throughout almost the entire two year lockdown period. From the now infamous “bring your own booze” Downing Street garden party of 15 May 2020, through to 16 April 2021 when a party at Number 10 Downing Street went on until 1am 17 April 2021, the day of the funeral of Prince Philip. Her Majesty The Queen that same day gave the PM a lesson in leadership through her actions.
The disservice to the nation by law makers also being law breakers is unforgivable, it is a betrayal of the trust democracy relies upon.
The actions, and the cover up stories from the Prime Minister and others are as ludicrous as they are insulting, and go even further to offend hospitality than the majority of the electorate. Stop providing your core service and suspend your business, risk losing your livelihood, and while you do all that dutifully we’ll party like it’s 1999.
During the pandemic lockdown period thousands of hospitality businesses while following government lockdown laws went out of business, shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs. Good businesses and good people. Happy National Lockdown Anniversary Day, not.
