In an amazing outburst, even for Tim Martin, the Wetherspoon boss has hit out at the PM and his government’s ‘hypocrisy’ over the infamous parties held at No 10 Downing Street during Covid lockdowns.
In its most recent trading update, part of the Wetherspoon statement read: “There would have been a number of advantages for the nation if pubs had been open on 20 May 2020″ – the same day the PM ‘unknowingly’ attended the ‘bring your own booze’ party held in the No 10 gardens.
The trading statement also suggested Covid-19 controls in pubs at the time “were superior to private parties”, and his team in Wetherspoon’s pubs “would have easily dealt with the ‘high jinks’ alleged to have occurred at No 10”.
Today’s trading update from Wetherspoon was not signed by Martin, but are well known as his personal notebook to air his political views, as was evident in his unwavering support for the PM to get Brexit done.
This monumental shift from staunch ally to assistant assassin comes on a day where the PM’s future is looking bleaker by the minute, could this prompt the PM to utter, Et tu, Tim?
