The second Downing Street press conference in as many days saw Boris Johnson state adamantly that delays in the Covid-19 vaccination international supply chain will not impact the government’s roadmap.
Johnson went out of his way to emphasise his point and reiterated the dates in the roadmap alongside the sectors that will be reopened including hospitality.
Last year the PM stuck to the dates of reopening and today he seemed determined to do the same in 2021.
Media questions saw ITV’s Emily Morgan ask the PM specifically if any vaccine supply issues could mean the government failing on one of the tests it has set itself to ease restrictions. The PM jumped to answer with an emphatic “no”. He then added: “We’ll be able to meet the targets in exactly the way I’ve described.”
Then again underlined that easing restrictions starting on 12 April will enable the government to “get on” with its timetable for unlocking restrictions.
The PM seemed a bit too keen to dismiss any and all links in a complex international supply chain in the months ahead. Let’s hope he knows something he isn’t sharing at the moment, Queen Gertrude in Hamlet may have thought he doth protest too much.
