Britain is a nation of wine lovers. So, BBC’s Newsnight reporting that wine from Europe will become more expensive, and harder to acquire in 2021 will not go down well with wine aficionados or the hospitality venues where it is enjoyed.
The reasons are all down to exporting to the UK from the EU post Brexit being more time consuming and therefore more expensive.
Wine exports from the EU to UK pre Brexit were worth circa £2 billion and that accounts for 55% of wine consumed in the UK.
What is quite alarming is where in the video tweet below, one wine importer says that EU wine exporters have no shortage of alternative markets to sell to, avoiding the UK’s Brexit bureaucracy.
