The recent government petition for a Minister of Hospitality created by Chef & Restaurant Magazine’s Editor Claire Bosi, has gained more than 36,000 signatures in its first month.
The petition asks people to support the motion: ‘We are asking that a Minister for Hospitality be created for the current, and successive governments’. The petition can be seen here, and signed if you agree with the motion, we do and have. The petition also shows the total number of signatories ‘live’.
The petition is open for six months and closes on 6 April 2021.
If 100,000 signatures are received before the close, the petition’s motion will be considered for debate in Parliament.
As such in just over 16% of the time open having passed the petition has achieved more than 36% of its goal.
Glass Half Empty Vs Glass Half Full
Trend line ahead of target lineThere have been some in our industry on twitter, where much of the campaigning is ongoing, questioning why the petition hasn’t already reached 100,000, and others questioning it further. We looked to try to answer some of the questions recently, which centred around the need for more ‘young people’ to have a voice.
So, for us at H&C News the glass is definitely half full, 36,000 plus people taking time out to sign the petition is quite an achievement.
We look forward to charting progress further in the months ahead, and celebrating reaching 100,000 before April 2021.
