Rishi Sunak has just announced increased support for hospitality jobs and workers impacted by Covid-19. The Chancellor has implemented significant changes to his Job Support Scheme (JSS) replacing the furlough ending this month.
The new JSS scheme will see employers paying less and employees able to work less hours before they qualify. At the same time, the tax subsidy has been doubled.
The new support scheme is designed to help businesses that are currently in tier 2, where trade is almost devastatingly impacted from the restrictions of the tier, but support was limited as they were still open and able to trade.
Many hospitality businesses in tier 2 areas had been lobbying local government and trade bodies that they would be better off in tier 3 and forced to close with support.
Businesses in tier two areas, particularly in the hospitality sector, had complained that they would be better off if they were under tier three restrictions.
It is commendable that under such lobbying for change the Chancellor has listed and acted.
He also tweeted about the changes as you can see.
