Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group have supported two Scottish children’s charities by running the London Marathon and raising over £7,000.
Steve Graham, Managing Director and Steve Buckley, Head of Procurement, completed the gruelling challenge in searing heat in London on Sunday 22nd April. They ran to raise funds for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland), and When You Wish Upon A Star (Scotland).
The pair exceeded their £6,000 target and raised a total of £7,474.40 which was split between the two charities and an official cheque handover was held at the Busby Hotel in Glasgow.
While there have been runners who have previously completed the 26.2 miles around Britain’s capital for these two charities, this is first time both organisations were granted a dedicated place at the Virgin Money London Marathon.
In 2007, the Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group was founded by Glasgow-based Steve Graham. The Group actively support charities and in 2017 raised and donated a total of over £48k.
This was the first marathon for both Steve Graham and Steve Buckley.
Steve Graham & Steve BuckleySteve Graham, CEO, Manorview Groupsaid, “This was a challenge! It was the first marathon for both myself and Steve, and from the training to the actual event itself, it was tough. But we’ve seen the amazing work both of these charities do to support children and families when they need it most. Knowing that we were helping in some small way, kept us both going. I’m very humbled and grateful for all the donations and good wishes we have received. It’s inspired me to look at some other challenges – but I might have a bit of a rest until the next one!”
Judith King, Fundraisers’ Assistant from When Wish Upon a Star charity in Scotland, said, “We are truly honoured Steve Graham and Steve Buckley chose to support our Wish granting work in Scotland and by completing the world-renowned London Marathon for the very first time is an incredible achievement in itself! We believe every child we work with deserves to smile, and with the incredible support from the Manorview Marathon Men, and for everyone who has donated so generously, we will be in a wonderful position of giving our wish children and their families something very special to look forward to, forgetting their often harsh and painful treatments and to simply be a child for a day whilst creating special treasured memories – We can’t thank you enough.”
Scott Maxwell, Events Co-ordinator from CHAS, said, “Taking on a marathon is challenge enough, particularly if it’s a first, but on top of that, the Steves had to deal with unprecedented heat. They really have gone above and beyond to make a huge difference to families all across Scotland who face their most challenging of times. When a child has a life-shortening condition every family member is affected. We’re here to support children and families so they can make the best choices about their care and, when the time comes, their end-of-life. Every child and their family should get the care they need so they can make memorable moments of joy, and we couldn’t do that if it wasn’t for people like the Manorview Marathon men and everyone who contributed so kindly. Thank you all”
