This spring, a new breed of Italian restaurant is coming to town with the arrival of La Mia Mamma on Chelsea’s Kings Road. The restaurant was born from its founders, Peppe Corsaro, Corrado Mozzillo & Luca Maggiora who all share a passion to awaken childhood memories of their Mamma’s home-cooking, imparting knowledge and expertise to hungry Londoners.
The first of its kind, La Mia Mamma is a unique concept that not only prides itself on offering the very best of regional Italian cuisine, but also the fact that every season they will import an Italian Mamma from a different region. These Mammas will take over the kitchen and will lovingly create a selection of great tasting regional dishes made from the freshest ingredients and both sweet and savory dishes will sit pride of place on the menu for set period of time. All pastas will be freshly prepared and hand-made daily in the restaurant window for the whole of Chelsea to see Mamma in action and get a taste of true Italian cooking. A selection of meats and fish will also be available and will be made the Italian way; slow cooked to perfection on the charcoal Robata Grill. Alongside Mamma’s magnificent menu, there will be an A La Carte menu filled with the very best Italian dishes from all over the peninsula.
La Mia Mamma will bring a slice of true authenticity to its customers, educating on unique tastes, flavours and the bounty of fresh, seasonal produce that is known to vary wildly from region to region- with 20 regions from the north of Italy to the south, there is sure to be an abundance of flavours to enjoy at La Mia Mamma!
The debut Mamma will be Lidia Romeo from Sicily who will take residency for three months and will impart and share her knowledge, love and passion for Sicilian cuisine with customers- think Arancine and Pasta alla Norma. Lidia will also be on hand to meet and greet the guests, meaning that dining at La Mia Mamma will be exactly like having lunch or dinner at her house, where a warm welcome and delicious food is guaranteed. Diners are also encouraged to try a few Sicilian inspired cocktails and some Italian wines from an extensive list to complement Mamma’s food.
Open seven days a week from 11.30am- 11pm, the 65 cover restaurant will boast an open plan kitchen where diners can observe the Mammas working hard to create their signature dishes. On hand to help will be executive chef Marco Giugliano, who has worked in Michelin starred restaurants and some of the best restaurants in London, including Quattro Passi and Il Baretto in Mayfair. Well aware of the matriarchal set up, Marco will be sure to conform to Mamma’s wishes and avoid getting on the wrong side of what we all know to be the spirited nature of the world’s best Mamma’s.
Hands-on master classes and demonstrations led by the Mammas themselves will be on offer for those customers with an appetite for learning, eager to share in the depth of knowledge from the fingertips of those that really do know best.
With no two menus the same and much to be discovered as you traverse across Italy, La Mia Mamma really does have it all to offer under one roof!
