Catering students from Weston College’s School of Food were given the chance to quiz one of the UK’s most successful chefs of all time, Marco Pierre White, during his latest visit to the South West.
The celebrity chef, who was visiting his two North Somerset restaurants, which are located at DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House in Congresbury, spent time with the youngsters, offering advice and guidance on forging a career in catering and hospitality.
The students had the chance to find out what inspired Marco to go into cooking and ultimately become the youngest British chef to attain three Michelin stars.
Mimmo Pomo, restaurant manager at the Steakhouse said: “It was great for the students to meet the great man himself. Marco is a great advocate when it comes to the next generation of cooks and chefs and is always prepared to give time to those who are passionate about food.
“Having come from humble beginnings, Marco loves inspiring students and we hope they will be even more motivated to do well in the future – you never know, we may just have in our midst the next Marco Pierre White, right here in the South West.”
During the visit, Marco also spent time in his two restaurants – the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill in the hotel and the Bardolino Pizzeria, Bellini & Espresso Bar which can be found within the venue’s health club and spa.
There he met with customers, signed copies of his cookbook White Heat 25 and re-launched his new beer The Governor.
Marco Pierre White and JW Lees & Co (Brewers) have announced plans to brew their collaboration beer, The Governor, for another five years. The all-malt British ale that was first brewed in 2012 will be brewed exclusively at JW Lees Greengate Brewery in Manchester until at least 2023.
Marco Pierre White, who is famous for developing delicious flavours in his food and sourcing the finest ingredients, worked with JW Lees Head Brewer Michael Lees-Jones to brew a classic, high quality auburn ale. The beer is lightly hopped with British Golding hops, meaning the subtle fruit and malty flavours will complement most foods.
The beer will be available in Black and White restaurants across the UK as well as in JW Lees pubs and in independent outlets.
Mimmo continued: “: “It’s always great to see Marco. Every time he visits there’s a real buzz of excitement. He has such a presence and proves a real inspiration to both the kitchen and front of house teams.”
