Martin Williams and Executive Chef, Michael Reid, have teamed up with rugby star, Simon Shaw MBE, to launch a new offering – the first M Bar & Grill launch from the team behind the acclaimed multi-faceted M venues – M Threadneedle Street, M Victoria Street, both of which house the award winning M Grill, M Raw restaurants, M Wine Store and public and private members lounges.
Designed to offer Londoners and locals a taste of central London style and quality but on their doorstep – M Bar & Grill opens on 11th September at Brewery Wharf, opposite Twickenham Station, overlooking the River Crane and moments from the world-famous rugby stadium.
“M Bar & Grill is our neighbourhood offering,” said M CEO, Martin Williams. “Trends have evolved over the last few years and there is now a real demand from commuters who want London dining tastes met where they live. Until now their choice has been gastro pubs, high street chain restaurants and Michelin-starred restaurants. M Bar & Grill is a response to commuter-belt demand and the growth in the quality casual dining market. In many ways, it is also a response to Brexit. Since Brexit, costs have increased 20% due to the devaluation of the pound and price inflation. This has motivated us to create something we have always wanted – to offer an entirely British experience. Every element of food, every ingredient, is British sourced. As M Bar & Grill develops as a restaurant brand it will retain this commitment to British produce.”
Commenting on the new launch, Executive Chef, Michael Reid, added: “M Bar & Grill is our take on a luxury pub – all the best bits of the British pub we love so much but with our usual M style. M Twickenham has pub personality – informal, hearty, chatty, traditional, simple, friendly. Pubs are the heart of the community in the UK – they are a place for people, conversation, hospitality, friendship, family – and for us, food is at the heart of all those things. The menu in Twickenham reflects this. The M Bar menu is a playful take on pub classics from our childhood, while the M Grill menu gives a nod to the great grills of the 70s – the Savoy Grill and Simpsons – whilst giving the classic pub menu a signature M flavour.
“All our British beef is selected from Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland, mainly from the O’Shea family farm – they are 8th generation butchers and have the finest beef in the U.K. We’re also serving the stunning Highland Wagyu, in my opinion the finest producers of Wagyu in the whole of Europe. In fact, every part of our menu is 100% British, right down to the produce we’re growing ourselves in our herb and fruit tree garden.”
Martin Williams and Rene Dekker, of Rene Dekker Design, were reunited on Twickenham. Traditionally a residential designer, Martin has looked to Rene to create each of his London establishments, inspired by the fresh thinking and lack of boundaries he brings to his designs.
“The original concept was to emulate a contemporary pub,” said Rene Dekker. “We wanted to bring together all the elements true of a quintessential British pub – dark oaks, green leathers, brass, glass and bright carpet – all translated into a more contemporary design with M’s signature style.”
M Twickenham opens on 11th September.
