Manchester’s oldest beer and wine importer Morgenrot has enhanced its thriving world beer selection with the addition of Cisk, an award-winning lager, famous for its Mediterranean charm and character.
The new lager beer will be available to the UK On-Trade in 30 litre kegs and 33cl bottles and will officially be launched to the UK trade at Pub 17 (stand 21), which takes place at the Olympia, London, from February 7-8th.
The Beer
Cisk Lager 4.2% – expertly brewed and packaged in Malta since 1929, Cisk is a golden coloured, bottom-fermented lager with a distinctive, and well-balanced character. Its rich hop aroma and pleasant bitterness makes it a perfect thirst quencher and refreshing summer beer.
John Critchley, Commercial Director at Morgenrot, said:
“We’re delighted to add Cisk to our burgeoning world beer portfolio and feel that Pub17 is the perfect place to launch the beer to the trade. Cisk is a premium imported Mediterranean lager and is a great fit for us. With the summer already on the horizon, we’re confident the brewery’s pursuit of quality and unique heritage will be a popular choice for operators and consumers.”
The 30 litre kegs have a list price of £89.19 and the bottles come in cases of 24 and are priced at £23.81.
The Brewery
Simonds Farsons Cisk, popularly known as “Farsons”, is Malta’s leading, independent brewery, established since 1928. With a prestigious brewing heritage that dates back to the 1880s when H. & G. Simonds of Reading established an operation in Malta, the brewery is the proud producer of Cisk Lager, which has become synonymous with the Mediterranean island.
The “Cisk” name and origin lies with the banker Marquis John Scicluna, whose decision it was to venture into brewing and who was responsible for introducing bankers’ cheques into local circulation in the late nineteenth century. Nicknamed “ic-Cisk”, a mispronunciation of the word “cheques”, the Maltese unknowingly gave the name to one of the island’s soon to be most iconic brands.
The Maltese Islands and Britain have long standing historical connections which date back to the early 1800s when Admiral Nelson’s fleet ousted the French from Malta. With 7,000 years of history, the Maltese Islands are dynamic, vibrant and extremely popular with UK holiday makers. Situated right at the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, it is home to a diverse population of just under half a million people together with a growing number of Brit expats enjoying the Maltese sun, sea and hospitality. Although one of the smallest countries within the European Union, Malta is also one of the world’s richest cultural and historical destinations and any visit isn’t complete without a few Cisk beers.
Michael Farrugia, Company Director at Simonds Farsons Cisk commented that:
“It’s great to be working with a company like Morgenrot, which has a proven track record of launching and growing world beer brands, especially in the UK On-Trade. We’re confident that with our beer’s quality and Morgenrot’s energy and expertise, we can do amazing things in the UK market.”
