Award-winning contract and events caterer, KUDOS, has completed a project to provide access to clean drinking water for over 400 people in the village of Kiguli, located in the Mpigi District of Central Uganda.
Through their partnership with ethical bottled water brand Life Water and their partner charity Drop4Drop, KUDOS provides Life Water to its customers at Brighton Centre and Winchester Cathedral. For every bottle of Life Water sold, Drop4Drop gives at least 1,000 litres of clean drinking water to a community in need. Drop4Drop have provided clean water to over 500,000 people, and works together with Life Water to help alleviate the world water crisis.
Working closely with Life Water, Drop4Drop implements the projects that businesses fund through purchases of Life Water. With KUDOS’ participation, they have successfully built a well which eliminates the need for the women and children of the village to walk over an hour, in unsafe conditions, multiple times each day to collect unsafe drinking water from contaminated sources. Senior Partner of KUDOS, Peter Bruun, said: “We are extremely proud to work alongside Life Water and Drop4Drop to aid a community in need, especially for something that everyone has a right to; clean water.
“Kiguli derives a large amount of its economy from agricultural work like the production of food and crops; such as bananas and ground nuts. The injection of clean drinking water from this well will provide much needed nourishment for both the crops and residents; helping to boost economic and individual well-being throughout the village and provide new opportunities to the community. We will continue to do our part as an ethically driven company and will ensure that many more wells are built in the future”.
The project is KUDOS’ first clean water initiative and the creation of the well took four weeks to complete. Sam Pyant for Drop4Drop, commented: “Thanks to KUDOS, 412 people now have access to clean water, changing the lives of the entire community forever. The village relied heavily on natural sources of water, such as ponds that were often shared with cattle and livestock. Now that KUDOS have helped to provide a source of clean water, the community will have improved health along with a fresh opportunity for economic and social prosperity”.
KUDOS regularly contribute to charities and community initiatives. Their 2015 Helping Hands initiative provided 30 homeless people and families with Christmas hampers containing winter essentials like hats, scarves, gloves, shoes, jumpers, jackets and blankets for every Christmas party sold. KUDOS also created a drop-off initiative where people could bring toiletries, socks, Christmas cards and chocolates for distribution to less fortunate members of society.
