Fonseca’s is set to celebrate the Superfood revolution next month in collaboration with a self-confessed ‘Gym Bird’.
Taking place in the Stanley Street restaurant on Wednesday, September 7, the award winning restaurant will join forces with renowned personal trainer and founder of ‘It’s Bootcamp Bitch’ Harriet Igglesden for a three course meal with a difference.
Ideal for gym bunnies and buffs, the night will invite diners to explore dishes that have been devised with pre and post-workout in mind, in a bid to help the body refuel and repair.
General Manager of Fonseca’s Danielle Youds said: “Nowadays people are more health conscious than ever before, as the likes of clean eating and Superfood diets are increasing in popularity. Whether accompanied by fitness regimes or followed on a simple dietary preference basis, the growing trend is something that we at Fonseca’s want to make easily accessible to our diners.
“With that in mind we are excited to team up with Harriet, who is affectionately known across the city as ‘Gym Bird’. Not only will she offer her insight into the importance of food when it comes to pre and post-workout, our team of chefs have worked in collaboration with Harriet to create a menu that features lean protein-rich dishes that combine healthy fats, grains, iron and vitamins. On the evening, the ‘Bella’ wines from award-winning New Zealand vineyard Invivo will be available by the glass, offering 30% less alcohol – and therefore 30% less calories – than traditional wines.”
To kick start the meal, diners can select from Chargrilled Asparagus with Poached Egg; Slow Roasted Tomato and Chilli Soup with Garlic Crisps; Inverawe Smoked Salmon with Spinach and Avocado Salad and Chargrilled Smoked Tofu with Pearl Barley, Grape and Sumac. Main course options include Goosnargh Chicken, King Prawn and Quinoa “Jambalaya”; 6oz Welsh Black Beef Steak with Sweet Potato Mash, Portobello Mushroom, Garlic Roasted Tomato and Peppered Watercress; Turkey and Courgette “Burger” with Beetroot and Apple Slaw and Cauliflower & Sour Cherry Cous Cous and Roasted Squash Stuffed with Chickpea Tagine, Samphire and Alfalfa Sprouts.
Those with a sweet tooth can then choose from an assortment of guilt-free desserts including Roasted Peaches and Figs with Pomegranate and Toasted Almonds; Mango and Ginger Sorbet; Frozen Banana and Blueberry Parfait and Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cup.
Formerly a bartender at Salt Dog Slims, the Albert Dock based trainer has built up a reputation across the city for her ‘relentless’ motivation techniques, bespoke diet plans and personable approach.
Harriet said: “Having worked as a personal trainer for more than a year now, it is through my own personal journey that I have discovered the importance of complimenting a fitness regime with clean eating, in order to achieve maximum results.
“It’s great to have joined forces with Danielle and the team at Fonseca’s to create an evening that revolves around Superfood staples and healthy meals, which are not only balanced and nutritious, but offer inspiration for delicious meals that can be replicated pre or post-workout.”
A Night with Gym Bird will take place at Fonseca’s Restaurant on Wednesday, September 7 from 7:30pm.
