The family which runs English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues has picked up a prestigious accolade at a glittering awards ceremony in London.
Simon and Ben Berry carried off the ‘Hotel and Leisure Family Business of the year’ gong at the Family Business United awards held at the May Fair Hotel.
The awards showcase the best of British family firms, and those who seek to use their family nature and values to build successful businesses and become ambassadors for their sector. Award winners were selected regionally, with the Berry family emerging from strong competition to take the hotel and leisure industry title.
The hotel group, which has been run by the Berrys for more than 60 years, was assessed taking into account a range of criteria. These included its approach to corporate social responsibility, green tourism, charitable work, creativity and innovation and commitment to staff development and training.
Simon Berry, Managing Director of English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, says: “Winning this award is a real feather in the cap for the entire team. It reflects our business ethos, our approach in terms of pastoral care, and family values which go back several generations.
“Ultimately, it’s the staff who make our business tick. Above all, we strive for everyone here to understand each other’s individual needs, from guests and visitors to colleagues and suppliers.
“We seek to develop their skills and confidence through training and motivation, by rewarding creativity and by encouraging them to go the extra mile for others and surpass our guests’ expectations. So it’s been fantastic to gain national recognition for what we are doing.”
The Family Business of the Year Awards were created to celebrate the UK family business sector, to recognise the diversity of family firms across the country and to celebrate the contribution that they make.
