Employees at Wrights Food Group – maker of popular Wrights pies – are to get an extra day’s holiday as part of the company’s 90th anniversary celebrations.
Special birthday cards have been delivered to all 470-plus members of staff, telling them about the bonus break.
The cards read: 90 Tasty Years. Happy Birthday. 1926-2016. Wrights.
Inside, the message says: As part of our 90th Birthday celebrations, we would like you to take an extra day’s holidays during 2016. Happy 90th Birthday Wrights!
Under the 90 Tasty Years banner, the gesture is one of a series of celebratory events throughout 2016 to mark the family-run business’ milestone.
Chairman and CEO Peter Wright said: “We wanted to say a big ‘Thank you’ to all our employees for helping Wrights get where it is today and achieve what it has.
“We thought the best way to do that would be to give them something they’d really appreciate – an extra day off work.
“It’s certainly gone down well with everyone, and I know many of them are already planning what to do with their additional leave.”
Factory, shop and office staff can take their extra day off any time between now and the end of the year.
Crewe-based Wrights also wants customers, its shops, suppliers, and the wider community to join in and help it mark 90 years, and has already produced dozens of special anniversary hampers to be presented to local people celebrating their 90th birthdays in 2016; and to deserving people nominated to receive one by friends, relatives or acquaintances.
Founded in 1926, Wrights has gone from John James Wright selling savoury pies made in their kitchen to friends and neighbours, to a £47m-turnover business employing more than 470 people at state-of-the-art facilities that produce 150m-plus products every year.
As well as supplying the likes of pies, sausage rolls, savouries, sandwiches and cakes to its 19 shops across the Potteries and North Staffordshire, Wrights also develops and makes a wide range of products for customers including independent bakers, supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, pubs, and the foodservice industry.
And still at the heart of the product range, after 90 years, is founder John James Wright’s meat and potato pie, which features the same 11 ‘store cupboard’ ingredients it was created with in 1926.
