Innis & Gunn opens The Beer Kitchen in Dundee with spreadable beer

March 31, 2016

Scottish independent brewer, Innis & Gunn, today opened the doors of The Beer Kitchen in Dundee, its second bar-come-restaurant. As the feud over the origins of marmalade continues, the brewer is proudly showing where their allegiances lie and has opened their latest offering by creating the world’s first ever beer marmalade – Marm & Ale – which combines much-loved Innis & Gunn oak-aged IPA with Dundee’s finest preserve.

The Beer Kitchen, located at 10 South Tay Street, has also brewed a brand new flavour of marmalade IPA using Innis & Gunn’s trademarked beer percolator that allows the brewer to infuse beers with accent flavours from a wide range of artisanal ingredients. Customers are invited to The Beer Kitchen to try this new brew for free for a limited time.

Designed by award winning architects Morgan McDonnell in a Scandi-Scottish style, The Beer Kitchen will serve a wide range of craft beer along with a specially curated menu featuring chopped and charred and low and slow style dishes as well as pub classics.

All food at Innis & Gunn’s Beer Kitchens are created with a focus of matching them with beers. Expertly trained waiting staff will guide diners on the best food and beer pairings.
The new bar will house two five hectolitre tanks serving unpasteurised lager fresh from the brewery as well as an open cellar with limited edition oak aged cask beers. Dundonians will also be able to take home Innis & Gunn beers in two-litre growlers.

The first “The Beer Kitchen” in Edinburgh recently scooped up an award for New Casual Dining Design Concept of the Year at the Casual Dining Awards in February.

Spearheaded by retail veteran David Hall, the ‘Beer Kitchen’ brand will continue to roll out venues across the UK and internationally, with plans for another 2 sites by the end of 2016.

QUOTES:

Dougal Sharp, Innis & Gunn founder and master brewer said:

“Launching in this great city has provided us with an opportunity to do what we do best: push the boundaries of what’s possible with beer through innovation and experimentation. That’s why we’ve been hard at work brewing a marmalade IPA and even creating spreadable beer for adventurous foodies. We’re proud to be setting up shop in such an innovative and vibrant city, we can’t wait to share our passion for great beer with Dundonians.”

“With a focus on pairing food and beer, we are educating diners about the nuances and complexities in beer that they otherwise might be unaware of. Our staff will let them know what type of beer best accompanies a meaty stew for example or what they should sip on to draw out new flavours in sweet desserts.

We are not simply satisfied with telling people about beer- we want to show them too. This is why we’ve installed an exposed beer cellar and tanks serving the freshest beers straight from the brewery. We want Dundonians to understand and appreciate the process of getting Innis & Gunn beer into their glasses.”
