Former Chelsea FC football star Gianfranco Zola was in Bromley earlier this week to officially launch Unico Gelato & Caffè with co-founders Elena Manfroni and Leonardo Ragazzi. H&C News was happy to drop in and find out what it is all about.
Turns out that – apart from the crowds attracted by famous footballers – it’s about a passion for quality: outstanding gelato (mass produced ice cream can’t live with Unico Gelato), excellent pastries, and top quality coffee. We recommend all three, but any one of them justifies a quick trip to Bromley!
Why Bromley?
At the launch, Zola was personally handing out samples of gelato and said Bromley was the obvious choice to launch the parlour as himself and Elena live locally and had a desire to bring a taste of Italy to the UK. Zola was joined by friends and former Chelsea players Andriy Shevchenko, Roberto Di Matteo and Dennis Wise (pictured below) who were there to support the launch.
Passion for quality
“The reason why Elena, Leonardo and I decided to open Unico was because we’re all gelato lovers. My favourite flavour is Magic Box, a pine nut custard gelato with whole toasted pine nuts!” Gianfranco Zola said.
“We have a passion for quality, and our main purpose at Unico is to deliver quality gelato and coffee that we know people will love, and will want to share with their family and friends.”
Complementary tastes
Unico’s gelato is made fresh every day, with no additives or colourants meaning it is a more natural alternative to mass-produced ice cream.
To accompany its gelato, Unico offers a selection of fine coffees and freshly made pastries which can be matched to complementary gelato flavours, creating new combinations to satisfy every palate and every mood.
Manuel Terzi of Caffe Terzi Bologna has been brought in specially to advise and source the coffees used to complement both the gelato and the pastries. Any visitor is recommended to consult with the barista about the coffees available and the tastes they complement: when quality product and quality advice are both available, it’s a shame not to take advantage!
Unico’s range will soon be available for home delivery, giving South London residents the opportunity to enjoy authentic Italian fare at home.
“Gianfranco, Leonardo and I believe that Unico is bringing a new way to experience authentic Italian gelato to the UK,” said Elena Manfroni. “We were thrilled to welcome so many new customers to Unico for our official launch and we’re looking forward to becoming a firm favourite with South London food lovers.”
