Opened in 2006, Trinity has long been considered one of the finest restaurants in the capital, and a particular stalwart for residents south of the river. The recipient of both the AA London Restaurant and Time Out London Restaurant of the Year awards under Chef and owner Adam Byatt, the restaurant has recently closed for a complete re-design and re-opened on 12th October. While no changes have been made to the restaurant’s ethos, culture and team, an outside dining area on thenewly created Clapham Old Town ‘urban piazza’ has been created, and an open plan kitchen installed.
‘Upstairs’
In addition to the changes to the original restaurant, Byatt is proud to announce the launch of ‘Upstairs’ (pictured below), a completely new casual dining space on the site’s first floor. Wooden communal dining tables are set along new picture windows with views on to the Old Town piazza and all dishes are all cooked to order from an open island kitchen. A selection of 12 small plates is on offer and a feasting menu available for large groups.
Cooking
The menu served in the original ground floor space and new piazza will stay true to Byatt’s style of cooking, focussing on his interpretation of great classics.
The Trinity kitchen will present a two or three course option at £28 or £35 Dishes include the Trinity’s signature Pig’s Trotter with Gribiche, Lemon Sole baked in Seaweed Butter, Pot au feu of Duck, Roast Grouse with White Polenta and Blackberries. Apple Pie and Custard, one of the desserts Byatt served on BBC2’s ‘Great British Menu’.
At ‘Upstairs’ the 12 small dishes available will change dailyand are individually priced at between £3 and £12. Sample items on this menu include Roast Chestnut Salad, bbq Squid and Gremolata, Crab Thermidor, Game Broth, Radishes and Turbot Roe and Quince and Cardamom Granita.
Wine and Drinks
The new wine list at Trinity remains true to its original determination to offer great quality and value for money and now extends to 400 bins. The list includes the ‘Chef’s Cellar’ Selection of fine wines offered with only VAT and corkage added, an ideal opportunity for diners to try some iconic producers at affordable prices, well matched to their meal. As a whole, the list focuses on the more traditional areas of Burgundy and Bordeaux with some great classics, while still capturing some unique and well-sourced wines from the lesser known regions and New World gems.
‘Upstairs’, a more modern, youthful approach to wine is taken with a large selection by the glass and carafe available and featuring three top-class wines on tap. Master Classes are held once a month by wine expert James Price with broad topics such as ‘Sparkling and Champagne’ and more in depth studies including ‘Cote du Nuits vs Cote du Beaune’.
Alongside a full selection of aperitifs, cocktails, spirits and digestifs, and on offer throughout the building and its al fresco space is a unique tailored Trinity table beer by Cronx Brewery, The Wild Beer Company on draft and Trinity’s own Gin by The Cambridge Gin Distillery paired with BTW tonic or made simply into a classic martini.
Design
Designer Adele Harrington has created a new sense of elegance and sophistication at Trinity with a lighter, less masculine style than the previous interior. Elements of marble, British stone, soft furnishings, brass and wood create a timeless and graceful art deco feel with new leather banquette seating set amongst the soft hues of jade green and dusty heather pink. Critically acclaimed artist Kristjana S Williams has been commissioned to create three bespoke paper-cut collaged artworks (pictured above) to complete the space.
