Scandic Hotels, the largest hotel chain in the Nordic countries, felt that hassle-free and seamless connectivity would be a valid approach to making a difference for the contemporary traveller.
So the Scandic management took a strategic decision to invest in a new, chain-wide network infrastructure that would offer all guests and visitors optimal ease of use, coverage and bandwidth for years to come.
“Guest technology is a big trend where we have to be pro-active to satisfy our guests,” said Johan Michelson, VP Brand and Marketing for Scandic in an exclusive interview with H&C News last week. “Everybody uses the Internet today, and what we are experiencing is an extreme increase in the demand for streamed media.”
136 hotels; 12,788 wireless access points
Between October 2013 and April 2014, Swisscom Hospitality equipped 136 Scandic hotels with a total of 12,788 wireless access points – and a next generation Internet access technology that enables Scandic’s “Click-to-Connect” concept. It allows Scandic to recognize returning guests instantly by their mobile phone before they even reach the front desk.
Swisscom Hospitality Services has now issued a video testimonial that sheds light on Scandic’s motivation in investing in a new Wi-Fi infrastructure.
Amazingly, it’s not only meant to deliver seamless connectivity, but also to become a tool for the digital delivery of more guest and hotel services, from free voice services to digital check-out to staff internal communication and housekeeping.
Swisscom’s video testimonial looks at the need for better Wi-Fi from two perspectives: branding and IT management. From either perspective, the Scandic initiative promises to set a new standard for many more hotel chains to come.
“With our new Smart Wi-Fi infrastructure, we’ve effectively eliminated any complaints about connectivity. This gives us more time to focus on service innovation.”
