Clutch, a new breed of chicken restaurant, has opened in one of London’s trendiest postcodes just off Columbia Road.
Situated on Ravenscroft Street, Clutch serves gourmet copper buckets of healthier fried chicken prepared using the finest grade groundnut oil. With a passion for ethically sourced chicken, Clutch sources its produce from a small free-range farm in Wiltshire where eggs are produced in clutches.
The menu offers a choice of half or whole buckets of high-quality fried chicken coated in peppery buttermilk or soy and garlic. Clutch’s dishes also include: Wingit by the Dozen which come in two different flavours, ‘Honey and Sesame’ and ‘Sour and Spicy’, and Love Me Tenders, soaked in lemon and parmesan or curry leaf and sesame. Mains may be paired with a selection of sides including ‘Mother Hen stuffing’, roasted corn or for an indulgent taste, the Fabulously Fried Fries, twice fried in peanut oil to provide a delicious extra crunch.
At the weekend, Clutch offers an extensive brunch menu serving dishes including Clutch it up, chilli scrambled eggs with halloumi, roast tomato and guacamole and Birdy Benedict – poached eggs with turkey bacon and Hollandaise sauce.
Designed by interior designer Christina Fallah, Clutch provides the ideal setting to enjoy a laid back brunch or a fun evening of chicken and tunes. Vibrant gold restored tables, deep green surfaces and vintage pieces from Dublin give an eclectic, contemporary yet cosy atmosphere. The graffiti exterior was designed by graffiti artist Maser and Gareth Pugh.
For Summer 2014, Clutch has collaborated with Gareth Pugh, one of Britain’s most renowned designers, to create a striking outdoor canopy within a secret garden.
Co-founder, Anthony Ussher, says, “As a huge fan of fried chicken, I wanted to bring this dish back to life in a healthier form that everyone can enjoy without the usual associated guilt. We are excited to have opened our first restaurant, bringing dishes that we enjoy, to the people of London,”
Clutch also offers a unique range of “Clutchtails” (cocktails), an evolving menu with quirky chicken pun names such as ‘The Bitter Hen’, The Sour Grouse
