Business in Sport and Leisure (BISL) – the strategic body representing business and organisations operating in the sports and leisure industries – is staging its annual conference on Thursday 7 November. Titled ‘The Value of Leisure’, the conference will feature a wide range of speakers:
- The chairman of Marston’s, Roger Devlin, will speak on ‘the value of leisure business’; Olympic athlete and coach Darren Campbell MBE will speak on ‘the value of sport’; and the chief executive of Springboard UK, Anne Pierce MBE, will deliver her talk on ‘The Value of People in the Hospitality Industry’.
- Additionally, the Shadow Minister for Small Businesses and Regulation, Toby Perkins MP, will offer the opposition view of the leisure industry.
- There will also be analysis on the state of the leisure sector by management consultant Chris McMillan from Oliver Wyman (authors of State of the UK Leisure Industry); the economic outlook from leading economists Ernst and Young; and a view of today’s political language by Sky News Political Editor, Adam Boulton.
The one day conference will also include sessions on both gambling and sport featuring a range of leading figures across both industries.
BISL conference chairman, David Teasdale, said: “The leisure industry is one of the most important industries in the UK. Expenditure on leisure exceeds £200 billion annually and employs 2.6 million people.
“The industry is also a great provider of jobs for young people which are more important than ever in today’s economic climate.
“The conference is an important aspect of the sport and leisure calendar.
