The premium food experience brand “rhubarb” will be creating several new dining spaces at the top of London’s latest landmark building, 20 Fenchurch Street also known as the Walkie-Talkie – with uninterrupted 360-degree views of the Capital.
Joint venture partners Land Securities and Canary Wharf Group have announced a significant leasing deal with “rhubarb” to design and operate the Sky Garden on the highest floors at 20 Fenchurch Street. “rhubarb” has developed three bespoke and stylish concepts that offer different culinary experiences set within the stunning gardens.
Choice of dining experiences
Located over three floors and surrounded by landscaped gardens, the new venue will offer tenants of the building, members of the business community, and Londoners alike a choice of dining experiences with some of London’s best views. “rhubarb” is creating a food bar on Level 35 serving champagne and canapés, a chic brasserie on Level 36, and a refined seafood bar and grill on Level 37, as well as providing catering services for events and office tenants at the iconic new building.
“rhubarb” also has an exclusive relationship with innovative Michelin starred chef Heston Blumenthal, and will be offering events at 20 Fenchurch Street. The relationship means that Heston and his development team work exclusively with “rhubarb” on a variety of both technical and creative aspects of “rhubarb’s” events to offer guests an unparalleled experience.
Building and garden design
Set across three floors of the development, whose distinctive form is designed by international architect Rafael Viñoly, the Sky Garden will be an unrivalled new space for London when it opens in 2014. The gardens have been designed by award-winning landscape architects Gillespies and will be installed by Willerby Landscapes, a leading specialist contractor who worked extensively on the Olympic Park and was awarded seven Gold medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Experts from Kew Gardens also advised on the garden design and selection of planting.
The appointment of “rhubarb” as Sky Garden operator follows the recent announcement that the building is over 50% let more than a year ahead of completion.
David Atcherley-Symes, Retail Leasing Director at Land Securities London commented:
“This agreement with “rhubarb” furthers 20 Fenchurch Street’s reputation as one of the most exciting new developments in London. With its distinctive design, inspiring views and this new venue on the top floors, 20 Fenchurch Street is a great example of how London is furthering its reputation as one of the world’s most dynamic and vibrant business cities.”
