Compass Group UK & Ireland is celebrating after a double whammy of industry award wins recognising its corporate responsibility initiatives on Thursday 23 May in London and Glasgow. The specialist food and support services provider collected two honours for making strides with greener logistics and placing health and wellbeing at the centre of its business.
Environmentally Friendly Logistics Award
At the Footprint Awards, Compass was awarded the Environmentally Friendly Logistics Award for its introduction of a unique initiative, Green & Simple. Through Green & Simple, it has undertaken a journey to minimise its impact on the environment by reducing carbon emissions and improving the efficiency of its distribution network.
Partnering with Brakes, Compass has adapted its supply route and consolidated a number of core suppliers to make deliveries through a single distribution path. As a result, it has slashed 300,000 deliveries from its supply route and reduced its carbon emissions across the UK and Ireland by over 4,500 tonnes per year – enough to power 900 UK homes for a year!
Healthier Scotland accolade
On the same evening, Compass in Scotland scooped the Healthier Scotland accolade at the CIS Excellence Awards.
Having made a pledge to place health at the heart of its business, Compass has taken several innovative steps to help millions of consumers choose healthier lifestyles every day. This commitment is underlined by Compass’ Know Your Food programme, which was introduced throughout the UK and Ireland in September 2012.
In line with Compass’ Responsibility Deal pledges to Government, Know Your Food is a common platform to inform consumers about healthy living and sustainable sourcing, and to deliver core initiatives to clients and stakeholders. Compass and Know Your Food have also been shortlisted for the Health and Nutrition Award at the 2013 Catey Awards.

- Compass began the Green & Simple journey in 2010 with an aim to reduce carbon emissions by 6,000 tonnes a year, improving the efficiency of its distribution network and bringing numerous benefits to hundreds of suppliers, thousands of clients, tens of thousands of employees and millions of customers.
