Paypal has announced that it will be showcasing a new product at Mobile World Congress (MWC) – arguably the biggest mobile show in the world – that’s been designed to make it simple for cash-based businesses in countries that use Chip and PIN debit and credit cards (not swipe cards like in the US) to take and make digital payments.
It will certainly be a product that hospitality and catering businesses of all sizes should evaluate as soon as it is introduced later in 2013.
Its name: PayPal Here. It will be another example of PayPal’s renewed focus on creating beautiful and easy-to-use products that are tailored to address customers’ specific needs. In this case for small businesses to offer their customers an easy to use alternative to cash.
Game-changer
This game-changing product reflects the huge amount of time we spent talking and listening to small businesses. They are the core of PayPal’s business and they’ve told us that they want a simple, secure way to take card payments anytime and anywhere they trade. We’ve used that feedback to create what we think is the best payment device ever created. It’s a great example of our vision for PayPal: a wonderful customer experience from the moment the PayPal Here app is downloaded to taking the device out of the box and accepting a first payment. We’ve even included a ‘click to call us’ button in the app so our customer service team can be reached in one click just in case help is needed.
You download the PayPal Here app, and sign up for the device right there. There’s no contract or on-going fees, just the initial competitive purchase price and a small fee for each transaction. (PayPal will announce actual pricing a little closer to the launch.) You pair the device with your Android phone or iPhone to accept secure payments anytime, anywhere you trade, whether at a market stall, shop, restaurants, taxi or even in your customer’s home. Just like its original counterpart in the US and other countries, it allows you to send invoices & receipts wherever you do business, as well as taking card and of course PayPal payments.
The Chip & PIN version of PayPal Here will be launched in the UK first. It will be available to select UK businesses over the coming months before it fully launches in the UK this summer. It will be available in other markets that use Chip and PIN after the UK launch.
